Looking east at Paisley Abbey.

The Abbey was built beside a ford on the White Cart Water in the twelfth century, close to where the Celtic church of St. Mirin had once stood. It was home to monks of the Order of Cluny for the first 400 years of its existence. Since the Reformation in 1560 it has continued to serve as a place of worship for the people of Paisley.
